South Jersey’s First Sunflower Festival at Dalton Farms

SWEDESBORO, N.J. – Dalton Farms finishes its first sunflower festival Sunday with many visitors hoping to get one last Instagram picture.

There were couples, families, and friends cutting sunflowers to take home.

“I’m going to do some poses in the sunflowers. It’ll probably be pretty,” said Amy Smith, a yoga instructor at Rowan University who’s from Swedesboro.

Last weekend there was a yoga class on the sunflower fields. However, Smith didn’t attend, so she took photos on the last day of the festival with her boyfriend and his mom.

Lauren Busillo from Swedesboro decided to have a best friend’s day. She likes sunflowers because they are “happy and cheerful” which resonates with her.

Justin Garth, from Cherry Hill, and Alexandria Amiss, from West Deptford, heard about the festival through friends and social media.

Garth said, his favorite part of the festival is “walking and just getting to see the different ones–especially the bees too that was cool.”

Amiss said she came for the sunflowers. Her favorite being a fluffy yellow one.

According to 6 ABC Action News, there are over one million sunflowers and 18 varieties.

Keith Dalton is the owner of the farm. Together with Chris Viereck, owner of Random Acts of Farmage Agritainment, they were able to make the sunflower festival possible.

Viereck said, “We originally talked about doing tulips and then we said you know what well let’s get our feet wet with sunflowers. So we just went for it. Plant a bunch of sunflowers and we had a lot of people come out.”

According to Dalton, they plan on doing tulips in April. People can follow Dalton Farms on Facebook and Instagram for more updates and pictures.
